|First and foremost, Marnie is a reader – almost any content in any form interests her, but especially if it is well-written, well-edited and designed with the reader in mind. As a publishing professional, she is committed to serving her clients: authors and publishers, speakers and entrepreneurs, innovators and story-tellers. From assessing a manuscript, to editing content, to creating sales and marketing strategy, Marnie takes the time and care needed to meet the individual needs of every one of her clients.
Marnie lives in Bolton, Ontario and has travelled across Canada and to many places around the world. She grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc (major in geology and minor in English). Marnie began her career in the Canadian book industry as a bookseller at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg. Since then, Marnie has held a number of senior management positions with HB Fenn & Company (Bolton, ON), Key Porter Books (Toronto, ON), and John Wiley and Sons (Etobicoke, ON).
Working closely with publishers, authors, readers and retailers, Marnie developed a deep respect for innovation, competition and professionalism in publishing. She witnessed first-hand the recent technological changes and their effects on the industry. She also understands that self-publishing, or indie publishing is, now more than ever, an exciting alternative for many authors. Understanding that writers who also want to be publishers need support, guidance and advice when navigating their options in this new world, Marnie launched note Editorial and Publishing Services where she works with a dedicated network of publishing professionals whose goals are the same: to provide the best in personalized and affordable services of the highest quality for our clients.
In her more than 25 years in the Canadian book industry, Marnie has been an active participant in her profession: a presenter and delegate at industry conferences in Canada and abroad, a guest speaker for the publishing program at Humber College, a member of an industry panel of experts on the business of publishing, a jury member of the inaugural Manitoba Book Awards, and an editorial board member. Marnie has continued learning through ongoing professional development: classes in English literature, writing, publishing and George Brown College’s Editing Certificate Program.
Member of the Editors Association of Canada and the Halton Peel Communicators Association (HPCA).
Volunteer with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) in the recording studio producing audio books for their clients.
